Dear Readers and Creators,
"Everything is dual; everything has poles: everything has its pair of opposites; like and unlike are the same; opposites are identical in nature, but different in degree; extremes meet; all truths are but half-truths; all paradoxes may be reconciled."
We feel polarity in our lives all the time. Within our minds, in our work, with our family members, in our politics.
We tend to revert to the uncomfortable feeling of good and evil, right and wrong, darkness and light. Polarity divides us across the dinner table, puts us in unwanted boxes, and is weaponized against us. But what if we shifted our perspective on polarity altogether? This is a deeply personal law that I am hoping for one day to master. While I am not brave enough to share my own detailed stories, I have entrusted a poem to the Thèria community about my own struggles with the polarity of the mind.
The Kybalion's Principle of Polarity teaches that everything contains its opposite, and that opposites are not separate things, but different degrees of the same thing. Polarity says that hot and cold are not two different forces rather they are points on the same temperature spectrum. Likewise: Light ↔ Darkness. Love ↔ Hate. Fear ↔ Courage. Life ↔ Death. Masculine ↔ Feminine. Expansion ↔ Contraction.
These are not enemies. They are ends of the same continuum, and because opposites are the same thing at different degrees, transformation is possible. You don't destroy fear to create courage; you shift along the scale. You don't eliminate darkness, you increase light.
Polarity is the law that makes healing and growth possible. As you recognize yourself on the spectrum, you can transform by sliding between the poles. The realization that opposites require each other is more comforting than two opposing sides. Without darkness, light has no meaning. Mastery is the balance of the poles. The goal is not to choose one pole and reject the other, but to understand, integrate, and command both. The Universe breathes through polarity. Day and night, stars and black holes, creation and dissolution.
Polarity is not good vs evil. It is becoming vs being. It teaches that transformation is not about changing what you are — but changing where you stand on the same spectrum.
Most suffering comes from clinging to one pole and rejecting the other. Peace comes from recognizing where you are on the spectrum and allowing movement. And may we all find peace.

The Principle of Polarity, also known as FUZZY
I tiptoed across the line one day.
It felt like a warm and fuzzy place to stay.
I heard my name sobbed on the other side -
I wanted to turn towards it, yet I desired to hide.
No one can find me deep inside.
I won’t say hello from the other side.
Here I get to sit in all the pain.
My darkest thoughts are torturing me again.
Even when I look objectively at my brain
I can tell my insanity is insane.
Yet here I am stuck at my lowest pride.
I shan’t return; I shan’t abide.
I will reside on the fuzzy side.
Where are my memories full of bliss?
I have made so many, they are hard to miss!
This fog is making it impossible to see
I only feel the suffering.
My guilt and loathing bubble bath
Soaks in my skin, here comes my wrath.
I'll let the wounds all open up,
I'll cry and rage until I throw up,
Let all substances be my guide.
Now numb, I will occasionally say hello from the fuzzy side.
I see you looking at me,
terrified at what you see.
Have I shared my pain with you?
And now are you tortured too?
I feel like a failure in all my success.
I fight every second with my subconscious.
I can’t see joy through this fear.
Rage is the only thing I have from ear to ear.
I howl I need space far and wide.
What can you do that you haven’t tried?
Why do you even want me back from the other side?
I need to be held; I want to feel safe.
Lobotomize me, have this part erased.
Please don't leave me, I beg you to stay.
I cannot get out of my own way.
Can you come get me through this divide?
I feel trapped here on the other side.
Phew, I feel I am coming up for air,
Your touch, it helped, the smell of your hair.
How long have I been gone this time?
Stuck in the confines of my mind.
Days, you say! No fucking way!
How much time is this going to suck away?
I feel the anger; it has no place to hide.
It’s crept over from the fuzzy side.
But I’m back now, I can see its face.
I put the anger back in its place.
and scotch tape the wall with a heavy sigh

The Principle of Polarity
Inspired by the Hermetic teachings of the Kybalion, The Principle of Polarity explores one of the universe's most enduring truths: everything exists as a pair of apparent opposites. Light and dark, creation and destruction, fear and love, chaos and order are not separate forces in conflict, but different expressions of the same underlying reality.
At the center of the sculpture, two mythic beings stand face to face across a celestial landscape. One embodies fire, intensity, transformation, and passion; the other reflects serenity, imagination, compassion, and growth. Though they appear opposed, they are bound together within the same cosmic field, illustrating the Kybalion's teaching that opposites are identical in nature, differing only in degree. Neither can exist without the other, for each defines and gives meaning to its counterpart.
The carved sun and moon, the celestial heavens beneath their feet, and the braille-engraved scroll surrounding the composition remind us that polarity is woven into every aspect of existence. The sculpture invites viewers to look beyond division and recognize the hidden unity beneath contrast. In doing so, it becomes a meditation on balance, encouraging us to embrace both our shadows and our light, knowing that wisdom is found not in choosing one side, but in understanding the relationship between them.
