The Comedy of Being Exhibit Mount Metal Print
Inspired by the Hermetic teaching “As above, so below; as below, so above,” this sculpture explores the hidden relationships that connect all forms of life, knowledge, and consciousness. Rising from a thriving underwater ecosystem, a great shark hovers above a luminous Emerald Tablet, serving as both guardian and student of ancient wisdom. The work invites viewers to contemplate the invisible threads that unite the seen and unseen worlds, reminding us that the patterns governing the cosmos are reflected within every living being.
The shark's emerald eyes symbolize its awakening through knowledge. Having studied the Emerald Tablet, the legendary source of Hermetic philosophy, its vision has been transformed. No longer seeing only the physical world, it perceives the deeper correspondences woven throughout existence. The shark becomes a symbol of higher perception, representing the journey from instinct to wisdom, from observation to understanding. Its body is engraved with sacred symbols and hieroglyphs, suggesting that knowledge itself becomes inscribed upon the seeker.
Beneath the shark, a vibrant reef flourishes with extraordinary life. Coral formations, sea creatures, and delicate nudibranchs represent the countless expressions of creation that emerge from the same universal source. Just as galaxies resemble the spirals of seashells, rivers mirror veins, and lungs resemble the branches of trees, the underwater world becomes a reflection of the greater cosmos. The reef serves as a living reminder that the smallest forms often contain the blueprint of the largest mysteries.
Encircling the sculpture, ancient symbols are carved into a rich emerald-green base, creating a foundation of wisdom upon which the entire composition rests. Together, the shark, the tablet, and the flourishing reef form a meditation on perception, interconnectedness, and discovery. The Principle of Correspondence invites us to look beyond appearances and recognize that every creature, every pattern, and every plane of existence reflects something greater. It is an invitation to lift the veil, to seek understanding, and to remember that the universe continually speaks through the language of connection.

As the artwork comes to life, the boundary between sky and sea begins to dissolve, revealing the Hermetic truth: As above, so below. What unfolds in the heavens is mirrored beneath the waves, each realm participating in the same eternal dance of creation, survival, beauty, and transformation.
Above the surface, the birds glide effortlessly through the air, seemingly free and untouchable. Yet even in the open sky they are watched by a silent predator, a reminder that every realm contains both wonder and challenge. Below the water, a similar drama unfolds. The nudibranch slowly inches across the reef in search of nourishment, the shark pursues its prey, and life continues according to the same natural laws that govern the world above. Predator and prey, hunter and hunted, creation and consumption are revealed not as opposites, but as interconnected expressions of a greater whole.
Throughout the animation, the coral sways gently with the currents, embodying the rhythm and resilience of life itself. A mischievous blowfish suddenly expands, as if drawing attention to the profound lesson hidden in plain sight: the patterns of existence repeat themselves everywhere. In the flight of birds, the movement of tides, the search for food, and the instinct to survive, the same intelligence is at work. Every creature plays its role within a vast living system.
The experience invites viewers to look beyond individual events and recognize the deeper correspondences that connect all things. What appears separate is connected. What appears different is reflected elsewhere. The ocean becomes a mirror for the sky, the sky a mirror for the soul, and the smallest creatures become teachers of universal truths. In the infinitesimal lies the infinite. Close your eyes and see.
